10/24: I still use Photoshelter only because its a challenge to create a new website that has all the bells and whistles Photoshelter currently has. That said, Photoshelter has not delivered on promises to improve the sites needed flexibility and additional services. Lastly, the elimination of verbal customer service is a step backwards and disappointing.
12/2023: I have been a customer for 8 years. I would like to give 5 stars, but how times have changed. I am relatively happy with the functionality of my site. Approximately 3 years ago I was told that the templates would be overhauled to be able to handle video and more customized graphics. Not done. Disappointing. Years ago, customer service was excellent where I was able to call and get quick questions answered without requiring a call back. I loved that and made it bearable to not get improvements. The personal touch is gone.
I will likely stay with Photoshelter, but at some point I will need to run with the big dogs to be able to support my website.

Would give this company 0 stars if possible.
I'm a multi subject professional documentary photographer and after years with another useless company SmugMug I thought i would try these, OMG is all i'm saying.

Free trial i noticed their templates are suitable for one subject photography like weddings so on but for me who needs a vast collection of leader pages for different subjects it was hopeless, their homepage is so poorly made its borederling shocking.

This is where it became a con and a lie, they stated they are working on a new website and stated it will offer full customization so i paid and waited. after 4 months i started noticed loads of complaints and the so called owner stating new site soon which was a lie. i started to qiz them and they were saying they can't manage it and brought in new developers, soon after the new website idea had gone so i made a complaint and they paid me back 50%.

Other issues, their SEO doesn't work, after 4 months of testing it was hopeless , its down to get requests which would cost them a fortune to run the site, so thei hide images like smugmug from search only allowing the URL to be indexed. This is now across the board with photography sites.

Its a real pity because their lightbox is perfection, similar to the largest stock sites and it feels if they have put all their effort into that and have forgotten about the site itself.

I do extensive research into SEO and issues with the websites and both photosheter and smugmug offer nothing for the photographer wishing to be a online sales type, they are 100% for client based photographers where you give the client a password.

They are basically invisible photo storage sites, fine for people who has no interest in selling their images.

The internet has become near impossible for photographers now, wordpress should be perfect but isn't no web host has unlimited storage unless you are mega rich and have a dedicated package which is still limited. Then you have the likes of WP OFFLOAD MEDIA and media cloud which i think costs a bomb too but media cloud is selling a product that no longer supported.

So i,m back with smugmug and boy i hate that company, i've pulled them up and shown them their system is rubbish and they could not careless, sadly more photographers need to bite these companies to get things changed.

#Photoshelter was a disaster! Opened an account yesterday and could not receive any kind of assistance. Received 10 emails to sign up for support and the entire month of May is booked.

I just checked Photoshelter and found that another photographer, posing as me or my agent, is selling my work on this site. This is plagerism, if not outright theft of my intellectual and creative property. I'm outraged that the vetting process of supposed photographers is so lenient that this type of thievery was not noticed. An attorney will be contacting your office on my behalf. .

unfortunately they have stopped innovating probably 5 years ago. since then they just take photographer's money and give empty promises of upcoming improvements. The latest promise may be meant serious, we'll see. Seems i've been Relying on bad SEO, which, of course is crucial... Shame on you, Photoshelter for just disrespecting paying photographers and breaking their trust. Year after year.

Integrating storage, display and a sales / print solution - it's put together nicely, but can be a bit hyped. Before you spen money on an expensive plan, take honest look at your images to decide if anyone is really going to buy anything. Depending on pricing you may have to sell hundreds of images to break even.
